PECO NAMES G.R. RAINEY TO REPLACE D.B. MILLER JR., AS PEACH BOTTOM VICE PRESIDENT

 PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) has named Gerald R. Rainey, of Chadds Ford, Pa., as vice president of its Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in York County, Pa.
 Rainey, 44, replaces Donald B. Miller, Jr., 51, who has resigned to accept a position as senior vice president of Northeast Utilities at its Millstone nuclear plants in Niantic, Conn.
 Rainey has served as vice president of station support at PECO's Nuclear Headquarters in Chesterbrook, Pa., since June of 1992. He has been with PECO for 24 years, three of which he spent as maintenance superintendent at Peach Bottom.
 Dickinson M. Smith, senior vice president of the Nuclear Group, said he expects the transition in leadership at Peach Bottom to begin immediately.
 "We were not anticipating Don's resignation and we will miss him. He has made many significant improvements during his tenure at Peach Bottom," Smith said. "We are pleased that Jerry is available to replace Don and we feel confident that he will continue to build upon Peach Bottom's success. We wish Don well in his new position at Northeast Utilities."
 As vice president of station support, Rainey was responsible for functions that support PECO's nuclear plants at Limerick and Peach Bottom, including licensing, training, maintenance, emergency preparedness, fuel management, and administration.
 From 1990 to 1992, he was manager of Eddystone Generating Station in Delaware County, PECO's largest fossil generating station. He also served in the Nuclear Group in various technical and supervisory positions for more than 10 years, and hath a bachelor's degree in engineering fr


Widener University and attended the Fuqua Business School at Duke University. He is an alumnus of the former St. James High School in Delaware County.
 Rainey and his wife, Carol, have three daughters and reside in Chadds Ford.
 Miller joined PECO as vice president of Peach Bottom in April of 1990. Prior to joining PECO, Miller had a distinguished 20-year industrial career in nuclear power with General Dynamics Corporation, Consumers Power Company and Northeast Utilities.
 Miller will be rejoining Northeast Utilities where he was startup manager at the Millstone Unit III nuclear plant from 1984 to 1987. He also served as startup consultant/manager of Startup Services at Millstone from 1983 to 1984. In addition, he served in several nuclear positions at Northeast from 1973 to 1978.
 Prior to coming to PECO, Miller was station superintendent at Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company's Haddam Neck Plant from 1987 to 1990. He was responsible for managing all site activities including plant operation, maintenance, engineering, emergency planning and radiological and environmental activities.
