PECO CELEBRATES AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

 PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company's (NYSE: PE) (PECO) African American History Month Committee is sponsoring a variety of events through the month of February -- African American History Month.
 A series of informative, educational and entertaining programs will highlight African American heritage.
 Of the more than 35 events scheduled as part of PECO's observance, seven events are open to the public and will be held in PECO's Energy Hall conference room, 2301 Market St., Philadelphia:
 TRADITIONS & VALUES OF AFRICAN & AFRICAN-AMERICAN FAMILIES, features two guest speakers from Ghana, West Africa, who will discuss African and African-American values and traditions and how they are associated with Africa.
 Event: 6 p.m., Feb. 5
 RITES OF PASSAGE, features a lecture illustrating the rites of passage from adolescent to adult for young African Americans with the goal of improving self image and a knowledge of history.
 Event: 6 p.m., Feb. 10
 STORYTELLING BY THE STUART SISTERS will feature African folklore expressed through song and dance as performed by two African American sisters.
 Event: 6:30 p.m., Feb. 17
 COMMUNITY ADVOCATE ASSOCIATION FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH presents a workshop concentrating on the community support services that are available for the children of parents who are in the midst of transition created by divorce, remarriage, substance abuse, loss of a loved one or incarceration.
 Event: 6 p.m., Feb. 18
 LIFE IN TRADITIONAL BLACK COLLEGES, a discussion on the benefits of campus life and education at the area's traditional black colleges. Representatives from Cheyney University, Lincoln University and the United Negro College Fund will participate.
 Event: 6 p.m., Feb. 22
 PEOPLE OF COLOR IN THE BIBLE, is a program highlighting African American contributions to ancient society as described in the Bible. The program also features a performance by the Central High Gospel Choir.
 Event: noon, Feb. 24
 PRIME: BLACK TRIVIA CONTEST: Overbrook High School students will conduct a contest based on historical data and facts from African American history.
 Event: noon, Feb. 25
 PECO's observance of African American History Month will conclude with a banquet on Friday, Feb. 26, at the First District AME Plaza, 3801 Market St. in Philadelphia. The festivities begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Gwendolyn S. King, PECO's senior vice president, Corporate & Public Affairs.
 The African American History Month Committee was established in 1980 to broaden awareness of the African American experience and heritage. The committee is currently comprised of more than 80 PECO employees.
