PCA NAMES THREE EXECUTIVES TO KEY POSITIONS IN OPERATING COMPANIES

 VALLEY FORGE, Pa., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Paper Corporation of America (PCA) announced the appointment of executives to key positions in three of its paper distributions companies.
 Robert M. Baumgardner has been named president of Copco papers of Columbus, Ohio, one of PCA's largest operating companies. Baumgardner, 55, has been employed by PCA since 1985, and currently serves as president of Carpenter Paper. Prior of joining PCA in 1985, Baumgardner was a general sales manager with Boise Cascade.
 Edward H. Strand has been named president of Universal Paper of Appleton, Wis. Strand, 61, returns to Universal after serving as president of Copco for three years, during which time he successfully restructured that company's marketing and management teams.
 James E. Bird was named president of Carpenter Paper succeeding Baumgardner. Bird, 38, joined Denver-based Carpenter in 1986 and currently serves as vice president of its central marketing region.
 In announcing the new appointments, Raymond A. Peterson, president of Paper Corporation of America, said, "Bob Baumgardner, Ed Strand and Jim Bird have demonstrated their ability to manage the distribution and marketing functions with consummate skill, give superb service to our customers and keep their companies on a high-growth track. They are especially able executives and their appointments are well deserved."
 Paper Corporation of America, an Alco Standard company headquartered in Valley Forge, is North America's largest independent paper distributor with extensive operations in both the United States and Canada. PCA's 1992 sales were $3.7 billion.
 Alco Standard Corporation (NYSE: ASN) is a publicly held paper and office products distribution company. For its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1992, revenues were $4.9 billion.
