The RadioSled24 is pocketsize and allows a Palm organizer to connect to a local area network server and on to the Internet via wireless/radio frequency technology. The cradle links to a server via wireless access points located throughout a facility -- much like cell phone zones -- allowing users real-time access to server and Internet-based information and applications.

"Very clever! In an increasingly connected world, this is a product that makes a lot of sense -- it leverages the Palm III family platform, the world's most popular PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  (personal digital assistant), with existing wireless technology," said Jeffrey Witt, technical director, Networking, PC Magazine Labs.

"The RadioSled24 is multi-purpose, allowing for custom or typical applications within the office walls while still retaining the 'take-it-with-you' capabilities of a handheld device."

More than 100 companies presented 125 new products, services or technologies during the day-long event which consisted of individual product presentations, a mini-trade show and editor-hosted seminars.

In awarding the Golden Gavels for the most innovative products, PC Magazine editors considered technologies, services and products categories, including PCs, network tools, Internet applications, software, PC development products, peripherals and multimedia.

"PEP is proud to be recognized by PC Magazine for providing radio frequency access to Palm users, thereby recognizing the importance of wireless, always-connected, thin-client access to applications, data and the Internet," said Dan Beadle BEADLE. Last month, the RadioSled24 also caught the attention of Southern California's engineering community when it was named a finalist in the American Electronic Association/Orange County Council's 1999 High-Tech Achievement Award for innovation in technology.
