PBI Media today announced the launch of an all-encompassing event dedicated to the digital content delivery industry. The first Digital Content Delivery Expo (DCD Expo) will take place February 4-6, 2003 at the San Jose Convention Center in California. This event will feature more than 30 issue-related sessions and more than 100 exhibitors on the tradeshow floor.

Formerly REPLItech, DCD Expo has expanded its scope to include the entire spectrum of digital content delivery processes, and will provide a forum for industry education as well as a platform for networking and business development. Rather than focusing solely on duplication and replication, the event includes additional targeted programming covering critical issues such as encoding, authoring, data storage, mastering, printing, packaging, media quality, data verification, licensing and royalty, fulfillment, Web distribution and more.

PBI Media commissioned Rochester, NY-based Harvey Research to conduct an industry-wide survey to help determine how the media manufacturing marketplace is evolving. The research firm polled corporate, operations, production, engineering, technical, sales, marketing as well as other industry professionals. Survey results show that 92.7% of respondents agree that the manufacturing of discs has become a commodity business, forcing media manufacturers to reposition themselves offering turnkey solutions from pre-mastering through fulfillment. In addition, findings show that the majority of participants believe that an event that encompasses the entire digital content delivery spectrum would more accurately reflect and benefit the needs of their current marketplace.
