Chatsworth did it on the back of running back Joe Shumpert, who carried 20 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Jason Moss Jason Moss was an American writer on serial killers.

The game seesawed in the first half until Birmingham took a 27-21 lead on a 25-yard hail mary pass A Hail Mary pass or Hail Mary play in American football is a forward pass made in desperation, with only a very small chance of success. But that was the last time Birmingham would lead.

Chatsworth dominated the second half. Colley kicked two field goals, and Moss completed an 80-yard pass to Sam Riley to ice the game.

``Nobody counted us in, and I don't blame people,'' said Chatsworth coach Bill Coan, who will represent the West Valley League in a playoff- seeding meeting today. ``All anybody talked about was Birmingham. This gets us a shot to sqeeze in.''

Birmingham (9-1, 4-1) is going to the playoffs but it will likely drop in its ranking.

``I'm not even thinking about that,'' Croson said. ``We need to learn from this.''
