PATRIOTIC WINNERS DAR HONORS LOCAL STUDENTS WHO EARNED CONTEST AWARDS.Byline: Daily News The Alliklik chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a Colonial patriotic society in the United States, open to women having one or more ancestors who aided the cause of the Revolution. The society was organized (1890) at Washington, D.C. recently honored local students who competed nationally in the Junior American Citizens 2001-2002 ``America - Born on the Fourth of July'' contest. For the second year, Shawnie Wise-Hawkins captured the national title for Creative Expression in the poetry division. Shawnie's entry first won the local, California State and Southwest Division titles before being chosen as the national winner by the DAR's Continental Congress. The banner created by sixth graders Carolyn Hampton, Christina Pitkin, Candice Purcell, Michelle Russeau and Brianna Trepanier received Honorable Mention. Sally Armas placed first in the state competition for her poster.
