PATRIOTIC WINNERS DAR HONORS LOCAL STUDENTS WHO EARNED CONTEST AWARDS.

The Alliklik chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a Colonial patriotic society in the United States, open to women having one or more ancestors who aided the cause of the Revolution. The society was organized (1890) at Washington, D.C.  recently honored local students who competed nationally in the Junior American Citizens 2001-2002 ``America - Born on the Fourth of July'' contest.

For the second year, Shawnie Wise-Hawkins captured the national title for Creative Expression in the poetry division. Shawnie's entry first won the local, California State and Southwest Division titles before being chosen as the national winner by the DAR's Continental Congress.

 School also received national honors for their banner submissions depicting America's birth as a nation. All entries had to win not only their local chapter competition,

but qualify at state and divisional levels to compete nationally.

Fifth graders Eric LeRoy, Anthony Bertado, Kevin Hoda, Bryce Kolacinski and Patrick Aguilera placed third nationally for their art banner. The banner created by sixth graders Carolyn Hampton, Christina Pitkin, Candice Purcell, Michelle Russeau and Brianna Trepanier received Honorable Mention. Sally Armas placed first in the state competition for her poster.
