PATRICK SULLIVAN JOINS DIGITAL AS VICE PRESIDENT OF MASS MERCHANDISING

 MAYNARD, Mass., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) today announced that Patrick Sullivan has joined the company as vice president, Mass Merchandising. In his new position, Sullivan will have worldwide responsibility for the launch, marketing support and strategic management of Digital's workstations, servers, hubs, routers, software, terminals, printers and supplies to external distributors, master value-added resellers (VARS) and retailers. Formerly, he was vice president of distribution management for Conner Peripherals.
 Sullivan, 38, will report to Larry Cabrinety, vice president of Digital's Components and Peripherals Business Unit. In this position Sullivan will be responsible for increasing Digital's indirect channels business, expanding the retail, wholesale and dealer segment, and shifting Digital's product revenues from direct to indirect sales.
 "Sullivan will lead the mass merchandising effort to rapidly increase Digital's business to wholesalers, VARS, distributors and retailers. His experience in the distribution market will help us concentrate Digital's revenues in this direction," Cabrinety said.
 In his role at Conner Peripherals, Inc., based in San Jose, Calif., with distribution headquarters in Lake Mary, Fla., Sullivan was vice president of its worldwide distribution business. This included P&L responsibility for Conner Peripherals' commercial and industrial distribution, systems integrators, reseller and retail direct sales.
 Prior to Conner Peripherals, he was vice president/general manager of Goldstar Products Company, Ltd., based in Scottsdale, Ariz. In this role, Sullivan achieved consumer market share gains for GoldStar products through strategic direction of the sales, marketing, international communications and product management organizations.
 Sullivan is a graduate of Arizona State University.
