There are 575 teams entered in the tournament, with players ranging in age from 7 to 61. The Top Gun division is loaded with ex-high school, college and pro players. But there are also divisions for current high school students, other youth, amateurs and armchair quarterbacks who think football is about sitting in front of a TV with a remote control, beverage and pretzels.

That doesn't mean there won't be some heated battles during the 30-minute games in which the first team to reach 28 points wins.

One of the Top Gun teams entered includes a group of players from City 4-A finalist Taft High School. Quarterback Nick DiPadova, the 4-A co-Player of the Year last fall, will direct a team that includes receivers Ryan Long, Damon Coleman and Keith Johnson. Also on the team is ex-Faith Baptist QB Judd Granzow, who was a fourth-round draft pick of the Dodgers two years ago before he retired after a shoulder injury.

There will be a 10-team high school division made up of underclassmen. L.A.
