PASSING IT ALONG; HAIRDRESSERS RELAY CONCERNS.Byline: Erin Gebroe Daily News Staff Writer Beauty salon Salon, annual exhibition of art works chosen by jury and presented by the French Academy since 1737; it was originally held in the Salon d'Apollon of the Louvre. By the mid-19th cent. the Salon had become an expression of conservative, established tastes in art. gossip infiltrated City Hall on Monday as manicurists and hairdressers did lunch with city officials, revealing what clients complain about while nails are polished and curls are coiffed. Major concerns included problems at the city's Skatepark A skatepark is a purpose-built recreational environment for skateboarders, bmxers and aggressive skaters to ride and develop their sport and technique. A skatepark may contain half-pipes, quarter pipes, handrails, trick boxes, vert ramps, pyramids, banked ramps, full pipes, stairs, , negotiations for a new department store and safety. Billed as a way for the city to learn about community needs, the luncheon also served as a public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most stint in which the city, through the hairdressers, could get word back to the community. ``It's a two-way thing,'' City Manager George Caravalho said. Upon arrival, beauty professionals received a survey asking for their ideas on making Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Additionally, before hairdressers discussed their clients' concerns, Caravalho conducted a slide show presentation. In it, he covered incoming entertainment such as the 3D-Imax theater, new parks New Parks is an area in the city of Leicester, England. Salon owners and employees then tried to help the city by passing along information they get from clients. Most comments were typical complaints of overcrowding overcrowding overcrowding of animal accommodation. One of those related to the Skatepark, an outdoor arena for skateboarding skateboarding Form of recreation, popular among youths, in which a person rides standing balanced on a small board mounted on wheels. The skateboard first appeared in the early 1960s on paved areas along California beaches as a makeshift diversion for surfers when the ocean . Older kids there are dominating younger children, said hairdresser Patti Lerman of Hairloom in Newhall. Another concern was what was happening with negotiations for a Nordstrom department store, said hairdresser Renee Kaehny of Mirage Hair and Nail Studio. Because Nordstrom is such a desirable business for cities, the department store is accustomed to landing generous deals, Assistant City Manager Ken Pulskamp said. In Santa Clarita, it wants $50 million and a guarantee that it will not have to pay rent, he said. ``They would rather see Macy's come in if Nordstrom is going to play that kind of game with us,'' Kaehny said, relaying her clients' desires. Safety, including feeling comfortable on bike paths, also entered the conversation. Capt. Don Rodriguez of the Santa Clarita sheriff's station said people should not use the paths at night because they close at dusk. He added that he is currently soliciting people to volunteer for bike patrols. ``We are working on putting more bike patrols not just in the summer but all year round,'' Rodriguez said. The last hairdresser luncheon was in 1993, when beauty professionals said the city should have more activities for kids, said city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz. Not long after, the city attracted the Mountasia Fun Center and has continued to make children's activities a priority, she said. While about 50 people attended that luncheon, only a dozen showed up Monday. But Antonella Knosp of Antonella's Creative Styles in Valencia said city officials could learn from hairdressers this year, too. ``I think that we're considered psychiatrists This list includes notable psychiatrists. Individuals listed below are all physicians, and are board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or are members of the American Psychiatric Association, or the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom, or . We hear a lot,'' Knosp said. ``I mean, we hear more than we want to hear.''
