The next night, Gregg Fiene was named Man of the Year by the Fashion Industries Guild of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a world-renowned hospital located in Los Angeles, California. History Cedars-Sinai is the result of a merger in 1961 between two major Los Angeles hospitals, Cedars of Lebanon and Mount Sinai Home for the Incurables, with Steve Broidy as at a major bash at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. According to Fiene, ``The award is not about me and XOXO XOXO Hugs and Kisses XOXO Extensible Open Xhtml Outlines XOXO XO Communications, Inc. (former stock symbol) (his company). It's about the hospital and the children.'' He wouldn't say how much he personally donated, but the event helped raise $770,000 for the hospital's neonatal intensive care center. The event included dinner, dancing and a roast with numerous jokes and kind comments about Fiene as a baseball player, businessman and family man. His friend, Jeff Gersch, even described him as a man so hard-working that he was willing to roll up his sleeves and clean bathrooms to make his business better. Similar comments were echoed by competitor and friend, Judy Rabineau of Mica, who said no matter how early she got to work at the CaliforniaMart, Fiene usually beat her. Also taking place this past week was the CaliforniaMart's Designer of the Year Award gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Almost 1,000 people crowded into the main ballroom to promote the local fashion industry, schmooze with Mayor Richard Riordan and chat with celebrity models and designers such as Eduardo Lucero and Janice Levin Krok of Poleci, who took top honors last year. By the time the party and the steak and salmon dinner was over, Los Feliz resident Trina Turk was named 1998 Designer of the Year, and Cynthia Vincent of St. Vincent was named Rising Star. Turk, who's married to fashion stylist Jonathan Skow, said her life probably wouldn't change much. She said she'll still shop for vintage clothes at Squaresville in Silver Lake, eat at Mishima in L.A. And she'll keep her collection small, as she thinks many designers fail when they take on too many projects.
