PAROLE VIOLATOR IS ARRESTED IN SHOOTING.

VALENCIA -- A transient parole violator was arrested June 11 and charged with several counts of assault after he shot the father of his girlfriend's young son in the leg, sheriff's officials said.

Michael Vera, 22, and Christina DaSilva, 25, came to Thomas Fisher's Player Drive home June 3 to drop off the boy, DaSilva's child with Fisher. After the altercation, Vera and DaSilva fled in Vera's 1995 green Cadillac El Dorado El Dorado, legendary country of South America

, sheriff's Detective Dan Finn said.

Fisher suffered a bullet wound to his leg and a fractured femur femur (fē`mər): see leg. .

Vera and DaSilva were arrested June 11 by Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police who spotted a car matching the broadcast description of Vera's car in Van Nuys.

``Once they handed off the child, there was an altercation,'' Finn said. ``First he pointed the gun at the victim and it either misfired or jammed. Then he pointed the gun at Fisher's brother and it misfired again. Then he hit the victim on the head with the gun and fired two rounds at him, striking him in the leg.''

Finn said the child was never in danger.

DaSilva was released June 13 after prosecutors declined to file charges. Vera, who has been charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm). Here, assault must be differentiated from battery as they are often confused. Assault is threatening to use force. , is on parole and is being held without bail.

``He has an extensive criminal record,'' Finn said, noting that his previous crimes have included assault, theft, vehicle theft, narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  and forgery.
