PARKS TO RUN FOR COUNCIL IN MARCH.

Assemblyman Tony Cardenas Tony Cardenas served in the California State Assembly. In the Assembly, he had the powerful position of chair of the Budget Committee. He is now a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing the 6th district, which includes parts of the San Fernando Valley. , D-Mission Hills, and former LAPD 1.  Chief Bernard Parks were among the first to file papers Monday to run for the seven Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  seats open in the March 4 primary election.

The filing period opened Monday for candidates to submit a declaration of intention to run. The deadline for filing is noon Saturday.

Among those who filed were Councilman Tom LaBonge Tom LaBonge (b. Los Angeles 1953), member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 4th district. He has served since 2001, taking over the position upon the death of John Ferraro. , who is seeking re-election in the 4th District, and Cardenas, who is running for the 6th District seat in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Parks is running in the 8th District, now represented by Mark Ridley- Thomas, who also is termed out.

Among those running for the northwest Valley seat held by termed-out Councilman Hal Bernson is former Assemblywoman Paula Boland, who has been a leader in the San Fernando Valley secession effort.

Boland has not filed a declaration of intention yet because she is also a candidate for a new Valley city council seat, if secession passes in today's election. Still, she has formed a campaign committee and begun raising funds for Bernson's seat.

``What we couldn't get by self-determination, I'll go to City Hall and try to fight for our district and see to it that the people fixing the potholes aren't just here when we're having a secession ballot, but they're here in a timely manner and they take care of the real problems that are here,'' Boland said.
