PARKING LOT CAMPING CONTINUES FOR NEEDY.

Byline: Daily News

PALMDALE -- Mitchell Chase and his sons will spend the weekend before Thanksgiving as he has for the past eight years -- camped out in a borrowed motor home in the Albertsons parking lot.

Chase and his family have made it their tradition to spend the third weekend in November collecting food and household necessities for the Antelope Valley's most disadvantaged residents.

``It's all about giving back to those who need a helping hand,'' said Chase, who will be accompanied by sons Micah, 17, Joshua, 16, and Abraham, 15.

Albertsons will help with a special deal of $18 worth of food for $9.99, Chase said.

Chase's Thanksgiving effort started in November 1998, when he spent five days living in his van in the Albertsons parking lot and made live radio broadcasts as he tried to fill a 50-foot truck with food.

In 1999, he continued his efforts, joined by sons Micah and Joshua, then 11 and 10. Abraham joined them the next year.
