PARKING CAR IN FRONT YARD SOON TO BECOME EXPENSIVE.

Byline: City News Service

Residents of Castaic, Stevenson Ranch and other unincorporated areas who park vehicles in their front yards are in for a surprise starting Oct. 1: The action can result in a $55 ticket under a new ordinance.

The ordinance, approved by the Board of Supervisors last month, covers unincorporated areas of the county, said Deputy Elsa Avila of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

It allows for a 60-day grace period when violators will just be issued warnings, said Cristina Economides, acting manager of the county's parking enforcement detail.

After that, deputies will issue tickets - just as they issue other parking tickets, Economides said.

``The parking of vehicles in front yards or on lawns has for years been a common complaint among the community (residents),'' Economides said. ``The purpose of the ordinance is to enhance the appearance of the community and is the result of suggestions from the community.''

Anyone seeking more information should contact the parking office at (213) 526-5179.
