The public park's outdated play equipment was removed and replaced under a joint project of the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  Therapeutic Advisory Council.

``The kids using that site will have a real good time because it's unique equipment,'' said recreation services manager Steve Wiley.

The park off Marview Drive includes the ``SensAbility Playground,'' with more than 3,000 square feet of a recycled tire surface that allows for wheel chair access.

The play area also includes special swings that hold the user in place, transfer platforms so disabled visitors to navigate through various play apparatus and a raised sandbox A restricted environment in which certain functions are prohibited. While federal law requires that all public parks be accessible to the disabled, this facility offers additional play equipment specially geared for the handicapped, officials said.

But the park also includes play structures all visitors may find unique - including talk tubes, which allow children to communicate to each other via a 25-foot long tube, and Voice Bob, a funnel that repeats back in a computerized voice to children what they've said, Sorensen said.

The district's Therapeutic Recreation Unit, which serves some 200 disabled people of all ages, offers programs at the site.

Sorensen said the district obtained a $28,000 grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board and used developers' funds ``to help make it kind of very modern and completely accessible.''

A grand opening is scheduled at 2 p.m., Sept. 30 at the park, with an annual family picnic to follow.
