Ripley Desert Woodlands State Park is on Lancaster Road at 210th Street West. Among the activities: Fitness challenge run, Sundays at 8 a.m. at Saddleback Butte campground. The three-mile course includes running in sand and on a dirt road. Health hike, Sundays at 9 a.m. at Saddleback Butte campground. The hike passes through Joshua trees and creosote creosote (krē`əsōt), volatile, heavy, oily liquid obtained by the distillation of coal tar or wood tar. Campfire talk will be on constellations and the mythology behind them. Early morning is best to see the annual meteor shower. Halloween family night, 5 o'clock Oct. 29 at Saddleback Butte campground. A potluck barbecue, ghost stories around the campfire and gifts for youngsters are planned. |
