. Hart Union High School District is weighing whether to transfer Castaic students or others to less crowded campuses.

Stevenson Ranch parents don't want their kids to move.

"To shuffle kids around after elementary school elementary school: see school.  and to different junior highs and high schools is a real concern," McLister said. "It was a concern with the Castaic community, and now it's a concern for us."

And while Hart district officials have tried to assure Stevenson Ranch parents their kids will stay at West Ranch ranch, large farm devoted chiefly to raising and breeding cattle, horses, sheep, and goats. The cattle ranch was introduced from Latin America to Texas and the plains of the W United States and Canada. , parents are keeping their eyes on every move.

They are planning to attend Wednesday's Hart board meeting in full force.

For McLister it's about the educational experience of all children, and she is worried overcrowding will have a negative impact.

"I could go on about taxes but that's not the argument, this is about our children, we don't want to see the quality of education fall because of overcrowding."

School board member Paul Strickland backtracked on a suggestion made last week to transfer students from neighborhoods near Calgrove Boulevard and Wiley Canyon Road to Hart High or another campus.

Instead, Strickland is suggesting open enrollment for those students, allowing families the option to enroll children at West Ranch, Valencia or Hart high schools Hart High School may refer to:
  • Hart High School — Newhall, California
  • Hart High School — Hart, Michigan
  • Hart County High School — Munfordville, Kentucky
  • Hart County High School — Hartwell, Georgia
.

"We just need to figure out how to accommodate all the students without overcrowding a particular site," Strickland said.

Strickland added that enrollment will drop drastically at Valencia and Hart after this school year.

"West Ranch is not the one and only school," Strickland said.

The bottom line for some Stevenson Ranch-area parents is that they want Castaic kids transferred some place else until the high school opens in their community. This, as the two communities consider joining to form a city.

John Kunak, a member of the Castaic Town Council, said the high school issue should actually bring the communities closer.

"We are all fighting for the same thing -- we want our kids to stay together at West Ranch until Castaic High School is built," he said.

The Hart board could take action on the issue as early as Wednesday.
