That would put them in first place in the District 20 Northern Division.

and poorest decisions any organization, for youth or adults, can make,'' states the letter, dated Monday.

The team had to forfeit all its victories last week for playing with 16 ineligible players. The players were declared ineligible when the state Legion office ruled that a team cannot use players from a school that another team is already using without the permission of that team.

When the team forfeited, it was 14-3 and leading the District 20 Northern Division over Newhall-Saugus. Now, Newhall-Saugus is recognized as the division leader.

``It's frustrating more than anything,'' part-time catcher Kevin Bell said. ``All of a sudden, none of our wins count. . . . It's tougher (to play) knowing even though we win (on the field), it won't count. It takes the competitiveness out. (But) we're still trying to improve for next year.''

, as an act of protest, the players are wearing black armbands and are treating the season as if they'd never protested. Before Monday's game against Tri-Cities, one player asked assistant coach Dave Toledo if they were still a game ahead of Newhall-Saugus.

``That's our perspective,'' head coach Tim O'Brien Tim O'Brien can refer to:

When the team started play in this, its first season, the goal was to have as many Hart High School players as possible. That way, they play together now and should be more comfortable when next year's high school season begins.

That plan has remained intact.

Sure, the players are angry that their record at the end of the season, regardless of their on-the-field performances, will be 0-26. They're upset over what they see as a paperwork mistake, not an illegal act.

O'Brien said he didn't know if the team will be around next season. If it is, the players who will graduate from Hart next June could play for Newhall-Saugus.

Pitcher Bobby Graves said Newhall-Saugus coach Pat Eggleston approached him at Sunday's District 20 All-Star Game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games  and asked if he would join him next season. Graves said his response was: ``If I play next year.''

``It's too sour a situation,'' he added.
