PARENTS DAY CEREMONY SET FOR LANCASTER.

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley residents will be honored Sunday in a local ceremony marking National Parents Day.

The inaugural Parents/Teachers/Students/Model Businesses of the Year Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lancaster Moose Lodge, 44545 Division St. In 1994, Congress designated the fourth Sunday of July as Parents Day.

Honorees have been selected from Palmdale, Quartz Hill, Littlerock, Pearblossom, Lake Los Angeles, Lake Elizabeth and Rosamond.

Parents of the Year are Pastor Darrell and Roshund Dorris Jr., Dr. Von and Sharon McGee, Essam and Amal Mostafa, and Dr. Ira and Ilana Opatowsky.

 of the Year.

Other honorees are Martin Jones, Teacher of the Year; Selah Selah (sē`lə), obscure Hebrew word occurring many times in Psalms and in Habakkuk. Its derivation is unknown. It may be a musical notation signifying a pause or the end of a phrase.  Donell, Student of the Year; and Yes 2 Kids, the model nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

An association that is given tax-free status. Donations to a non-profit organization are often tax deductible as well.
