   PARAMOUNT COMMUNICATIONS TO ACQUIRE MACMILLAN COMPUTER PUBLISHING
    NEW YORK, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramount Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCI) today announced it has agreed to purchase Macmillan Computer Publishing, a leading publisher of personal computer and related technical books, from Macmillan Inc., a subsidiary of Maxwell Communication Corporation plc.
    The operations of Macmillan Computer will become a unit of Simon & Schuster, the publishing operation of Paramount Communications.  The transaction is subject to, among other things, regulatory approvals.
    "This transaction will make us a significant computer book publisher, an area of business and professional publishing that has healthy margins and strong long-term growth prospects in the U.S. and internationally," said Jonathan Newcomb, president and chief operating officer of Simon & Schuster.
    Simon & Schuster publishes books and manuals in the personal computer field through the Brady Books imprint.  The Brady unit will be integrated with the operations of Macmillan Computer.  Through the Prentice Hall imprint in the United States and in the United Kingdom, Simon & Schuster also is a leading publisher of computer science texts for the academic and scientific markets worldwide.
    Macmillan Computer Publishing, a major publisher of computer books with more than 350 titles, comprises four imprints, Que, New Riders, Sams and Hayden.  In addition to computer books, the company publishes titles in electronics.  It also publishes and distributes grammar and style checking software packages.
    Paramount Communications is a global entertainment and publishing company.
