PARAMOUNT'S 'FRASIER' IN PRODUCTION; CAST ANNOUNCED

HOLLYWOOD, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- "Frasier," the new, highly anticipated comedy series from the Emmy-winning team of Peter Casey, David Lee and David Angell ("Cheers" and "Wings"), is in production on the first episode titled "The Good Son." Starring Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Frasier Crane, the only character to be spun-off from "Cheers," the episode is directed by multiple-Emmy-winner James Burrows and written by Casey, Lee and Angell. "Frasier," a series for NBC, is a Grub Street Production in association with Paramount Network Television.
"Frasier" stars have been set, including veteran film actor John Mahoney ("Moonstruck") as Dr. Crane's widowed father, Martin Crane; Jane Leeves (who played Miles Silverberg's girlfriend, Audrey, on "Murphy Brown") as Daphne Moon the live-in hired to care for Frasier's father; David Hyde Pierce ("The Powers That Be") as Frasier's psychiatrist brother, Dr. Niles Crane; and Peri Gilpin ("Flesh 'N Blood") as Roz, the call screener on Frasier's daily radio call-in program.
Based on the character of Dr. Frasier Crane (Grammer) from "Cheers," the series sees Frasier leaving his former life in Boston, after his divorce from Lilith, and starting fresh in his hometown of Seattle. With trepidation, he forsakes private practice for a radio call-in show, a condo with a view and a clean slate. However, life is not what he quite expects when his widowed father (John Mahoney) moves in and brings along his dog, Eddie.
"Wings" creators and executive producers Casey, Lee and Angell are the creators and executive producers of "Frasier." They were previously supervising producers on "Cheers" from 1987-1989. Christopher Lloyd ("Golden Girls," "Wings") serves as co-executive producer with Maggie Randell ("Wings") as producer.
"Frasier" is filmed before a live audience in Hollywood at Paramount Studios.
