PARAMAX APPLIES NEW SOFTWARE REUSE CONCEPTS
TO ARMY COMMAND AND CONTROL NETWORK
MCLEAN, Va., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramax Systems Corporation will apply the latest software reuse and re-engineering concepts to programs related to the U.S. Army's ambitious plan to standardize its battlefield communications hardware, software and protocols, according to company representatives.
Paramax is taking a three-pronged approach on two systems it is bidding as prime contractor as a means to reduce software development costs and risks. The company, a leader in developing software reuse techniques, is (1) taking advantage of existing software libraries, (2) taking steps to ensure that new software is reusable and (3) finding ways to reuse existing software that was not designed for reuse.
The Army's plan, known as the Army Tactical Command and Control Systems (ATCCS), is a broad strategy based on five open architecture systems to meet the Army's complex command, control, communications and intelligence needs on the battlefield.
Paramax is bidding on the Army's Integrated Systems Control (ISYSCON) system which automates multi-network battlefield communications planning, engineering and management. The Paramax solution, developed with team members ITT and GE Aerospace, relies heavily on COTS hardware and Paramax software reuse and re-engineering methodologies and techniques which allow the Army to leverage its existing base of proven non-development item (NDI) software.
Paramax is also bidding as prime contractor on the intelligence control system of ATCCS, the All-Source Analysis System (ASAS) Block II program. ASAS Block II is a major open architecture system using common hardware and software components to provide field commanders with near real-time intelligence for battlefield decision-making. Block II will evolve the current architecture, software and a Unix-base artificial intelligence module test bed into the ATCCS environment.
Paramax is a leader in advanced software development environments for the Department of Defense (DoD) and is one of the prime contractors on the Software Technology for Adaptable Reliable Systems (STARS) program. A major ongoing focus of the STARS program is developing methodologies and techniques that foster software reuse and re-engineering.
Software reuse and re-engineering techniques are expected to save DoD billions of dollars a year. Paramax has successfully applied reuse methodologies and techniques on the Navy's Advanced Combat Direction Systems (ACDS) for cruisers and destroyers. Paramax created a library of software during the course of the program that is now fulfilling 80 percent of software requirements for other classes being equipped with ACDS.
