PARAMAX ANNOUNCES NEW SYSTEMS ENGINEERING TOOL
 FOR REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT
MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramax Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS), announced today that it is releasing ReQuire, a powerful X-Windows/motif-based requirements management software tool that analyzes, tracks and manages the contractual and technical requirements associated with today's dynamic system development programs.
Effective management of program requirements is a critical step in controlling cost and performance of large-scale programs. Incorrect or misunderstood requirements can account for up to 80 percent of errors in complex programs. Properly identified, analyzed and tracked requirements can help eliminate these errors while effectively managing the rising costs of multi-million dollar software development projects or other system development efforts.
ReQuire gives system developers important tools that ensure that their products cost-effectively meet customer specifications and requirements. It supports analysis, identification and automated extraction of all contract- or specification-related requirements. Once ReQuire has identified and extracted the requirements, it breaks them into specific, readily traceable requirements that can then be allocated to a variety of program-defined structures such as proposals, program organizations, work-breakdown structures, and hardware or software configuration items.
ReQuire maintains full traceability support through every step of the development process. This support consists of the creation and maintenance of traceable "one-to-many" and "many-to-one" links between requirements and source documents, parent and child requirements, as well as allocated requirements and the program-defined objects that satisfy the requirements. Developers can also create customized reports as well as a variety of useful requirements reports organized by source document section, requirement type or genealogical structure.
A specially designed X-Windows graphical user interface maximizes the system's ease-of-use and efficiency. For example, all user functions are displayed on the screen in tiled format so that important information is always available.
Transportability is optimized by the use of the UNIX operating system and relational database technology, including Standard Query Language (SQL) that creates a high degree of relational database management system independence, regardless of platform.
For software developers, ReQuire supports integration of computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools such as Software Through Pictures (StP) and TEAMWORK to provide a computer-amplified software environment that allows linking text-based requirements from ReQuire to annotated design artifacts such as process flow diagrams. This ensures full integration of requirements management with CASE tools in the developer's tool box.
