News of the recommendation disappointed school officials, but thrilled neighbors of the K-12 campus near Rinaldi Street and Shoshone Avenue. Residents worry that the proposed campus annex an·nex

``I think now the burden is on them to come up with something better, something different that the city says is acceptable,'' resident Joy Ming said.

The proposal calls for a 75,000-square-foot building that would house classrooms, administration offices and a gym. Plans also include a parking lot and athletic field on a 5.5-acre site directly across Rinaldi from the existing campus. The expansion would allow the school to increase its enrollment from 800 to 1,200 students.

Hillcrest officials said they are assessing whether they can come up with an acceptable proposal in time for next week's hearing or whether they will need more time.
