Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2005, pending a review of an environmental report, to be released this month, as well as approval by the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  City Council, expected at the end of the year, officials said.

Located in the heart of the city known locally as the Panhandle and surrounded on all sides by established neighborhoods, Riverpark also would include 300 acres of open space that would act as a buffer between the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

``It's really a more conventional project compared to others,'' said Vince Bertoni, the city's interim director of planning and building services. ``We've done a lot of larger projects than this.''

Plans to develop the land include grading back canyons by 40 to 50 feet. The property includes more than 80 oak trees. Of the 15 that would be removed, 13 would be relocated, city planners said.

A draft of the environmental impact report, compiled by the Agoura Hills-based Impact Services firm, is expected to include information on any archaeological artifacts artifacts

Some residents who attended the afternoon tour expressed some concern about the project's density.
