PANEL TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS.

Byline: Providence Providence, city (1990 pop. 160,728), state capital and seat of Providence co., NE R.I., a port at the head of Providence Bay; founded by Roger Williams 1636, inc. as a city 1832.  Journal-Bulletin

When jury selection in the Unabomber trial begins today, it will be done anonymously - in part because of an article posted on the World Wide Web by a Boston-area man.

In a federal court in Sacramento, jurors will be known only by number and will not be asked their name or address as is typical in federal trials.

A judge ordered the jury remain anonymous after learning of an article on the Internet that listed the names, addresses and telephone numbers of potential witnesses in the trial and suggested people ``play a game, a fun game'' of scaring the witnesses.

That article, which is no longer online, was printed in the August issue of Softkill, an electronic magazine dedicated to ``sabotage sabotage [Fr., sabot=wooden shoe; hence, to work clumsily], form of direct action by workers against employers through obstruction of work and/or lowering of plant efficiency. Methods range from peaceful slowing of production to destruction of property. , bomb making, terrorism, phreaking (jargon) phreaking - /freek'ing/ "phone phreak" 1. The art and science of cracking the telephone network so as, for example, to make free long-distance calls.

2. By extension, security-cracking in any other context (especially, but not exclusively, on communications
(like computer hacking See hack and hacker.  but with phones) and encouraging economic collapse.''
