``It's now going to take on an additional role this year,'' Deputy Superintendent Deputy Superintendent, or Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was a rank used by police forces of the British Empire. In some territories it was called Deputy District Superintendent of Police (DDSP).  Bob Rice said. ``It will take on the role of looking at budget reductions, different ways of saving money. In the past, it has looked at such things like audit reports, or it would go through budget proposals from the state. It's never been to provide input regarding budget cuts. That has not been its role previously.''

The district also will expand the committee's membership by having each of the five board members appoint a representative to the panel by Nov. 8. The committee's first meetings will begin in January and are open to the public, Rice said.

The 10-person committee currently has as members teachers and nonteaching employees, a principal, a board member and several members of the community, Rice said.

Board President Sheldon Epstein said he wanted board-appointed members - in addition to district employees - to suggest areas to cut.
