PANASONIC OA QUIET DOT MATRIX PRINTERS NOW FEATURE
ADOBE TYPE MANAGER, SCALABLE FONTS AND COLOR
SECAUCUS, N.J., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic Communications & Systems Company's Office Automation (OA) Group and Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ-NMS: ADBE) today announced the availability of Adobe Type Manager(TM) (ATM)(TM) software and scalable fonts for Panasonic OA's 24-pin quiet printer family and new five-ppm personal laser printer. Using ATM software, computer users can now enlarge or reduce Adobe(TM) outline fonts to virtually any point size directly from Panasonic OA's KX-P2624, KX-P2124 and KX-P2123 dot matrix printers and the KX-P4410 Laser Partner.
Panasonic OA's new dot matrix printers, the KX-P2123 (which started shipping in February) and KX-P2124 (which will begin shipping in April), both offer the added benefit of color output through an optional color printing kit.
"Panasonic OA was the first company to introduce quiet technology in dot matrix printers, which was hailed by industry analysts as a significant evolutionary step that infused life into a mature market," said Steve Yuhas, senior vice president of Panasonic OA. "Now, with ATM software, we've taken a bigger stride, offering end users the ultimate value-rich feature combination that no other dot matrix printer can: quiet technology, scalable fonts and optional color capability all in one. Furthermore, for cost-conscious consumers, our KX-P4410 Laser Partner with ATM software is an attractive inexpensive font-scaling solution."
ATM is a software utility that enables end users to scale Adobe typeface. It provides an easy and transparent way to add scalable fonts to virtually any Windows(TM) printer and Windows display screen.
Panasonic OA is packaging the following 13 scalable Adobe typefaces with its printers: Times, Times Italic, Times Bold, Times Bold Italic, Helvetica (see Note A), Helvetica Oblique, Helvetica Bold, Helvetica Bold Oblique, Courier, Courier Oblique, Courier Bold, Courier Bold Oblique and a Symbol set.
"With ATM font scaling software, our customers can use Adobe typefaces to create hundreds of different fonts, resulting in exceptional output," said Terry Shorrock, national marketing manager for Panasonic OA's computer products division. "Given Adobe's position as a pioneer in font technology and Panasonic OA's printer leadership, we're confident that this venture will be beneficial to both companies and the end user."
ATM software and Adobe fonts will be shipped with the KX-P2624, KX-P2124 and KX-P2123 dot matrix printers and KX-P4410 Laser Partner.
