The Antelope Valley
 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the city of Palmdale will be presented Saturday at the Palmdale Playhouse.

The 2nd annual Cesar Chavez, A Celebration of His Life event is free to the public.

It will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception, followed by the program at 7 p.m., which will feature a biographical film and Ballet Folklorico dancing.

Chavez gained attention as a leader of an 11-year-long boycott of California table grapes Table grapes are grapes intended for consumption while they are fresh, as opposed to grapes grown for wine production, juice production, or for drying into raisins. Depending on the market for wine and table grapes, low quality wine may contain some grapes that could also be sold  in a drive to achieve better labor contracts.

Chavez was president of the United Farm Workers The United Farm Workers of America (UFW) is a labor union that evolved from unions founded in 1962 by César Chávez, Philip Vera Cruz, Dolores Huerta, and Larry Itliong. This union changed from a workers' rights organization that helped workers get unemployment insurance to that of  of American when he died in 1993 at age 66. He would have celebrated his 75th birthday Sunday.

Chavez' family had farmed and owned a grocery store in Arizona, but lost their land and business to back taxes during the Great Depression. The family moved to California and became migrant workers A migrant worker is someone who regularly works away from home, if they even have a home.[]

Although the United Nations' use of this term overlaps with 'foreign worker', the use of the term within the United States is more specific.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Chavez went back to work on California farms, then joined The National Agricultural Workers Union. He later became an organizer and fought to create a farm workers union.

 and Congress on Industrial Organizations as the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee, with Chavez as its president, chartered the union in 1966.
