The Desert Opera Theatre production ``A Grand Night for Singing,'' director Anndrea Stephan says, is a ``musical revue revue, a stage presentation that originated in the early 19th cent. as a light, satirical commentary on current events. It was rapidly developed, particularly in England and the United States, into an amorphous musical entertainment, retaining a small amount of  of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals'' full of songs that people will easily recognize.

``It's actually like 99 percent singing and dancing but we've tried to include a thread of continuity because basically it's about love,'' said Stephan. ``I expect people to be singing along in the audience and that's fine. There's laughter in this and there's pathos, funny and romantic.''

The show stars Abbie Bundy, Brant brant or brant goose, common name for a species of wild sea goose. ``I absolutely love it. It's been so much fun because, being a small cast ... the whole cast has just bonded as a family, practically,'' said Stephan.
