PALMDALE PLANS SUMMER NIGHTS FULL OF FUN.

PALMDALE -- Music, food, children's activities, special booths and merchandise, and a farmers market with fresh produce and flowers will be featured every Thursday evening this summer in downtown Palmdale.

This will be the sixth year for the Thursday Night on the Square street festivals, which will be held on 10 Thursdays starting next week from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Poncitlan Square, on 9th Street East south of Palmdale Boulevard.

``It's been a very successful effort. We started out small, drawing 600 or 700 people. Then last year all of a sudden we were at 2,500 people,'' said Steve Buffalo, Palmdale's special events manager.

Admission is free. Each night will host a different band and different crafts and activities for children.

The weekly theme lineup includes:

July 6 -- American Jubilee, with big-band music by the Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  Jazz Ensemble. Children may create a Lincoln penny necklace.

July 13 -- Candyland Village, with the r&b group One Blu Shoo. In a spinoff of the classic Candyland Game, youngsters can make candy crafts and play games, sponsored by High Desert Medical Group.

July 20 -- Alien Encounter, with Latin rock by the Boulevard Knights. Children may make their own alien creature and flying saucer flying saucer: see unidentified flying objects. . A clay sculpture contest will be sponsored by Washington Mutual “WaMu” redirects here. For the Washington, DC radio station, see WAMU.

July 27 -- Dogs with Jobs, with r&b music by Lorena Mackey and the Hi-Lites. Dogs dressed in job-related costumes can win prizes sponsored by Puppy Mama's Biscuit Bakery.

Aug. 3 -- Medieval Madness, with Latin rock by Persuasion. Youngsters can make crown and shield and test their jousting jousting

Medieval Western European mock battle between two horsemen who charged at each other with leveled lances in an attempt to unseat the other. It probably originated in France in the 11th century, superseding the mêlée, in which mock battles were held between
 skills.

Aug. 10 -- Barnyard Bonanza, with country music by Bulletproff. Youngsters can plant a seed, create vegetable-stamp art and take a pony ride.

Aug. 17 -- Caribbean Bash, with steel drum music by Steel Parade. Youngsters can make a wooden-bead bracelet, a seascape plaque, a rain stick or seashell See C shell.  soap sponsored by OBIA.

Aug. 24 -- Bugs and Butterflies, with oldies Oldies is a generic term commonly used to describe a radio format that usually concentrates on Top 40 music from the '50s, '60s and '70s.

Oldies are typically from R&B, pop and rock music genres.

Sept. 7 -- Seasons on the Square with r&b by Bump City. Youngsters can make a fall leaf print, a spring handprint hand·print

Lookout in the form of a turret, cupola (small, lanternlike dome), or garden house set on a height to give an extensive view. Few late-18th- and 19th-century rustic gazebos survive, but 17th-century turrets built up in an angle of the garden wall are not uncommon.
