PALMDALE MAN'S KILLER FOUND GUILTY.Byline: Karen Maeshiro Staff Writer An Antelope Valley man faces up to 100 years to life in prison after being convicted of a May 2004 shooting that killed a Palmdale man and wounded two others in a nighttime crowd in a Lancaster parking lot. A Los Angeles Superior Court jury convicted 28-year-old Kenjuan De Adams on Monday of murder, attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm for the May 22 shooting that killed Demone Dozier, 28, of Palmdale. ``There is one more murderer off the streets in the Antelope Valley, and I would like to thank the witnesses, the Sheriff's Department and the jury for that,'' Deputy District Attorney Benny Osorio said. Adams has prior convictions for second-degree burglary in 1997 and possession for sale of a narcotic in 1998, Osorio said. Sentencing is set for April 4. The defense argued during the trial that someone else was the shooter, Osorio said. Adams' attorney could not be reached for comment. Osorio said there was no clear motive for the shooting, which occurred among about 100 people who had gathered just after 2 a.m. in a parking lot at Division Street and Avenue J. The parking lot is said to be a frequent late-night gathering spot. Co-defendant Charles Reynolds, 27, pleaded guilty last week to possession of cocaine base and to being an accessory after the fact and was sentenced to two years in prison, officials said. Reynolds was given credit for the time he has served since his arrest May 22, 2004, and was released from jail. Reynolds' guilty plea came after Judge Kathleen Kennedy-Powell granted a defense motion to dismiss attempted murder charges against Reynolds and Adams in connection with a man who chased after the gunmen following the parking lot shooting. Adams and Reynolds were arrested after deputies stopped a van resembling the gunman's getaway vehicle, officials said. Karen Maeshiro, (661) 267-5744 karen.maeshiro(at)dailynews.com |
