PALI MAKES ELEGANT EXIT.TATIANA PALI, a principal dancer A principal dancer is similar to a soloist in dance. However, principals are hired by a ballet or dance company to perform not only solos, but also pas de deux. A principal may be male or female. with Indiana's Ballet Internationale, bid audiences farewell this spring in A Thousand and One Nights. Her eyes filled with tears as the viewers gave her a standing ovation and threw heaps of flowers onstage. The young ballerinas for whom Pali exemplified artistic mastery also cried. The theater director, the audience and various representatives of Indiana's city and state governments honored Pali and her long, distinguished career. But Pali wasn't saying goodbye forever--last year she had begun serving as a ballet mistress bal´let` mis´tress n. 1. a woman who trains ballet dancers.
