PAIR OF SLAYINGS INVESTIGATED ONE MAN FOUND BEATEN TO DEATH, ONE SHOT.

PALMDALE - Homicide detectives were investigating two separate slayings that occurred a little more than four hours apart in the early morning hours of Saturday, officials said.

A 41-year-old man was found beaten to death in the parking lot of Lancaster City Park, and a 58-year-old man was shot to death in the garage of a Palmdale home.

Just after midnight, a security guard was making his rounds at Lancaster City Park in the 43000 block of 10th Street West when he spotted a man lying on the ground, apparently knocked unconscious.

Investigators said it appeared that the man suffered blunt-force trauma to the upper body and head, but coroner's investigators will determine the exact cause of death.

Just after 4 a.m., a woman heard gunshots coming from the garage of her home in the 38700 block of 10th Street East in Palmdale. She went to investigate the shots and when she opened the door, a man stepped inside, said, ``I've been shot,'' and collapsed on the floor.

Paramedics arrived and rushed the man to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators did not disclose details of any relationship between the victim and the resident of the home.
