PAGINE'S DEBUT: PRICE FOR RISC-BASED X TERMINALS REACHES ALL-TIME LOW

PAGINE'S DEBUT: PRICE FOR RISC-BASED X TERMINALS REACHES ALL-TIME LOW
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Pagine enters the X market with an aggressively priced line of RISC-based X terminals. Named C2000 and M2000, the products reveal unprecedented levels of performance in color and monochrome. Top Benchmark Scores
Pagine's C2000 and M2000 are powered by a 33 MHz, MIPS R3000- compatible processor, with cache and MMU. Leading the performance curve, the C2000, a high resolution color product, features a 1280 x 1024, 17", 74 HZ, non-interlaced screen. The company developed a high density ASIC, including a 64-bit color graphics engine, to complement the main RISC processor. The powerful hardware, combined with Pagine's workstation-like software, gives the C2000 a benchmark reading of 125,000 X stones, the highest X-bench rating ever achieved by an X terminal.
"The C2000 and M2000 are fundamentally diskless workstations that execute the X server software instead of a dedicated O.S., such as UNIX or DOS," said Marisa Haines, Pagine's marketing vice president. "In fact, at Pagine, we call them X display servers; with their powerful processors, high resolution, large displays, and support for networking connections, they are actually closer to workstations than to terminals. The C2000 and M2000 even outperform low-end workstations, when handling common graphics display operations, such as windows manipulation, character drawing/scrolling, and filling of polygons." Sensible Text Products
The company is also announcing monochrome and color text terminals, featuring DEC VT420 compatibility, as well as ASCII and PCTerm modes. The M20 and C20 text terminals feature top quality video displays, with overscan and 76 Hz, high refresh screens. Attractively packaged, these terminals make economical desktop displays for a variety of multiuser computing environments, such as: DEC systems -- both as direct VAX connections, or via terminal servers --, UNIX-based systems, ranging from PCs to larger-scale hosts, and other multiuser configurations, including PICK, and multi-users DOS operating systems. Record Price Levels
All products are aggressively priced at the lowest levels in their individual categories. List prices for the C2000, M2000, C20, and M20 are $3,499, $1,799, $849 and $469, respectively.
Pagine Corp., based in San Jose, provides low cost display stations for computing systems. The company's approach is to offer high quality displays, attractive packages, and state-of-the-art integration, for maximum reliability and friendly human interfaces. Pagine's reseller programs, to be announced at PC-Expo, will offer a wide range of innovative items, with leading focus on direct reseller access to the core of the corporation's key decision makers.
