VALENCIA - Princess Cruises' new Pacific Princess
A former Princess Cruises vessel also operated under this name, presently known as Pacific. The former Pacific Princess was the ship featured in The Love Boat


Pacific Princess, (formerly R Three)
 will join the Valencia-based company's 2003 Alaska fleet, offering 11-day round-trip voyages from San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden .

The small 688-passenger vessel, formerly sailing for Renaissance Cruises Renaissance Cruises, originally founded in 1989, was a cruise line operator that operated year-round cruise itineraries to the Mediterranean, the Greek Isles, Tahiti and the South Pacific, Northern Europe and Scandinavia. , will reposition to Alaska after cruising in French Polynesia French Polynesia, officially Territory of French Polynesia, internally self-governing overseas country (2002 pop. 245,516) of France, consisting of 118 islands in the South Pacific. The capital is Papeete, on Tahiti.  and, for sister company P&O Cruises Australia, in the South Pacific.

Pacific Princess will offer 10 departures from May 29 through Sept. 5, 2003, including stops in Victoria or Vancouver, Ketchikan or Sitka, Skagway and Juneau, plus sailing through the glaciers, rock walls and waterfalls of Tracy Arm Tracy Arm is a fjord in Alaska near Juneau. It is named after a Civil War general named Benjamin Franklin Tracy. It is located about 45 miles south of Juneau and was designated as a wilderness area by the United States Congress in 1980.  and the twin Sawyer Glaciers.

``This new addition to Princess' fleet is enabling us to return to San Francisco next year with a very distinctive summer Alaska program,'' said Dean Brown, Princess' executive vice president of customer service and sales. ``San Francisco has historically been a great summer home port for us, and now passengers can combine the convenience and appeal of departing from this world-class city, with sailing on a small ship that offers big-ship choice.''

The 30,227-ton Pacific Princess, built in 1999, will feature balconies for two-thirds of the outside cabins, plus dining in Dining in is a formal military function for members of a company or other unit. The practice is thought to have begun in 16th Century England, in the monasteries and early universities.  a variety of different restaurants.

The vessel will join six other Princess ships in Alaska next summer.

Pacific Princess will be operating on a split deployment, sailing half the year as part of the Princess Cruises fleet, and the other half for the P&O Cruises Australia during the summer cruise season. After the 2003 Alaska season, the ship will return to the French Polynesia region to join her sister ship Tahitian Princess with a series of sailings beginning on Oct. 3, 2003.
