Spadea, 31, is ranked No. 42 in the world and will play in his first Masters Series semifinal.

``It's been great to put matches together,'' Spadea said. ``I mean, this is probably the most matches I've won in a row ... ever maybe.''

Blake had the best chance among the Americans who were ousted to advance to the semifinals after winning his first set. ``I probably let it hang around in my head for the next couple of points and shouldn't have done that,'' Blake said.

Kuerten will play Schuettler today in the other semifinal.

Schuettler also eliminated Roddick from the Australian Open. Roddick, who said he is bothered by a sprained ankle suffered two weeks ago in Florida, was coming off a late three-set match Thursday night.

``My game is to make the opponent run,'' Schuettler said. ``Because I like to run. I like to have some rallies. Here it worked pretty well.''

Davenport dropped the second set against fellow American Jennifer Capriati, hitting 26 unforced errors but came back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and advance to the finals.

The momentum swung back in her favor in the third set, and Davenport broke Capriati to go ahead 5-4. Capriati left the court for a medical timeout just before Davenport served for the match. It appeared her left leg had cramped up.

Davenport improved her lifetime record against Capriati to 8-2.

Clijsters had little trouble defeating 32-year-old Conchita Martinez of Spain 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal match Friday.
