PACIFIC ASIA TECHNOLOGIES, INC. SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH TANGRAM

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Asia Technologies, Inc. (Vancouver: PFT.V), announced the signing of a Letter of Intent with Tangram Partnership of Danbury, Conn., for the joint development of Pacific Asia's modified atmosphere packaging technologies in Mexico Tangram whose principals have over 30 years experience of marketing in Latin America will have responsibility for developing the market for Pacific Asia's technologies in Mexico. Tangram's expertise lies in strategic planning, marketing and logistics.
At present Tangram is working with several public and private organizations in Mexico on a project to promote the distribution and export of fresh and processed produce from Mexico initially to the United States, but followed by rapid development to Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim countries. A pilot project which includes the development of nearly a million square feet of warehousing and food processing capability near Mexico City is in the final stages of construction. Tangram believes that Pacific Asia's technologies, Maptek Fresh and Tamfresh, are key to its strategy of adding value to fresh and minimally processed produce prior to export. Tangram's experience in logistics has led it to the conclusion that these technologies are key to economic distribution of fresh food particularly as the technologies are environmentally and totally natural in their operation.
When fruit, vegetables and flowers are harvested they do not die immediately; even after preparation for consumption by slicing, squeezing or pressing. However the life processes that cause deterioration are accelerated. This affects nutritional value, flavor, texture and appearance. From nature's viewpoint, this is desirable as part of the future germination process; from the viewpoint of the consumer and food distributor it soon makes produce useless. Maptek Fresh and Tamfresh slow these ongoing life processes not by changing the product but by adjusting its environment. Under the influence of modified atmosphere packaging, the product is stabilized in a state of stasis similar to animal hibernation. Pacific Asia's technologies maintain this state for prolonged periods giving post-harvest freshness retention for between one and three months. Tangram believes that access to these technologies will give a significant marketing edge to growers and distributors of fresh whole and minimally processed vegetables, fruit and flowers both in Mexico and other low cost produce growing countries increasing their exports and reducing post-harvest spoilage by millions of dollars in the medium term.
