PA. ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION: SIX UTILITIES HONORED FOR TOP SAFETY RECORDS

 HARRISBURG, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Six electric utilities have been honored for achieving outstanding results in the annual safety contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Electric Association (PEA).
 Among member companies with more than one million employee hours of exposure annually, Pennsylvania Power Co., headquartered in New Castle, Pa., received the bronze plaque for achieving the best overall results in accident prevention. Penn Power also received a plaque for meritorious results in the prevention of disabling electric shock and burn accidents.
 West Penn Power Co., Greensburg, Pa., and Pennsylvania Electric Co., Johnstown, Pa., were similarly honored for meritorious results in the prevention of electric shock and burn accidents.
 Duquesne Light Co., Pittsburgh, was honored for showing the greatest improvement in its three-year average incidence rate.
 Among the smaller companies, those with less than one million employee hours of exposure, UGI Utilities, Inc., Kingston, Pa., received a plaque for meritorious results in the prevention of disabling electric shock and burn accidents, as did Citizens' Electric Co., Lewisburg, Pa.
 PEA is the trade association of the 11 investor-owned electric utilities in Pennsylvania. These utilities provide electric service to 95 percent of the population of the commonwealth and supply about 98 percent of the electric power consumed.
