Oxx has no regrets about Stars missing Santa Anita; NEWS.

Byline: Jon Lees

JOHN OXX John M. Oxx is a well known Irish horse trainer. He was born on July 14th, 1950 in Ireland, and his father, John Oxx Sr., was also fairly well known as a trainer.

John Oxx has been training since 1979, when he received his training license.
yesterday said he had no regrets that Sea The Stars missed the Breeders' Cup as he compared the triumph of Zenyatta in the Classic with that of Sea The Stars in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

The trainer said retiring Se The Stars to stud after becoming the first horse to win the 2,000 Guineas, Derby and Arc in the same season was "the right thing to do" and to contemplate what might have happened had Christopher Tsui's colt clashed with the unbeaten American mare mare

at Santa Anita would be "pointless".

"It was the obvious decision at the time and I was never going to regret it, no matter what happened on the night," he said. "It was just the right thing to do. Regrets wouldn't come into it."

Oxx watched Saturday's events on television in which Zenyatta completed her 14th straight win, coming from the back of the field to defeat Gio Ponti and Twice Over at Santa Anita, and saw parallels with Sea The Stars.

He added: "The whole Zenyatta thing is a great story, a bit like Sea The Stars over here where everyone was behind him and everyone wanted to see him win.

"His win in the Arc was a bit like Zenyatta's win the other day. The whole crowd were behind him. They were behind her and everybody got the result they wanted. It was great to have the horse in Europe and a horse in the States that excited people and got their imagination going.

"It's great for the industry and sport to have that sort of public interest. Everybody got the answer they were looking for.

"It's pointless thinking about what might have happened. She does have the advantage as she races on those tracks all the time. She's never gone outside California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). .  rides her with marvellous confidence. A bit like Mick does Sea The Stars, Mike Smith has great confidence in her ability and great familiarity with her because he rides that same race on her all the time.

"I'm sure he has all the speed fractions in his head and knows exactly what she can do and what she can't do, and rides her accordingly. It resulted in another nice win."

Sea The Stars, who has a best Racing Post The Racing Post is a British daily horse racing, greyhound racing and sports betting newspaper. It is owned by Sheikh Mohammed and published under a 10 year lease by Trinity Mirror.  Rating of 138 compared to Zenyatta's 128, would be expected to top the World Thoroughbred Rankings at the end of the year.

"Of course he'll have a high rating, but whether it's a true and accurate assessment of ability time will tell," Oxx said.

"It's hard to illustrate his ability with just a number. I think you can't really do it. The races he won, the manner of his victory, the fast times he did, that will mean more than anything."
