While News, History and Management titles declined dramatically--each in the 25 percent range--Lifestyle magazines showed strong growth. They went from 206 published in 2003 to 264 published in 2004.

Other magazine categories also showed major growth:

* Crafts, up 25 percent, from 103 to 129,

* Political science and politics, up 23 percent, from 104 to 128, and

* Golf, up 24 percent, from 109 to 128.

The categories with the largest number of titles are:

* College Student/Alumni, 971 magazines.

* Medicine, 965,

* Religion/Theology, 724.

The directory lists more than 18,800 consumer and business publications.
