The Global Kids Annual Youth Conference is an entirely youth-organized, youth-led event that brings together high school students and educators to learn and engage in dialogues about critical global issues. For Global Kids' student leaders, the Conference represents the culmination of months of training, working with adult experts, research, planning and organizing. This year, the teenagers in Global Kids' Power of Citizenry Leadership Program have selected global environmental issues as the conference theme. The event's title is "It's 2007: Do You Know Where Your Environment Is?" The Global Kids Annual Youth Conference will be held on March 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the New School's Tishman Auditorium, located at 66 West 12th Street (between 5th and 6th Aves.) in Manhattan. Students from over fifty public schools and youth organizations throughout New York City will come together to examine local and global perspectives on critical environmental issues, and to develop strategies to promote international cooperation in addressing them. Plenary sessions will feature speakers who will to familiarize students with the critical environmental issues facing our world and encourage them to become engaged citizens. There will also be a number of creative performances. Three outstanding New York high school students will serve as Masters of Ceremony for the conference. Overcrowding has caused some classes, e.g. Morning workshops will focus on the concept of Sustainability and indicators for a "healthy, sustainable environment," which includes aspects such as the economy, education, health, housing, recreation, public safety, resource use, government and transportation. The afternoon workshops will highlight key issues such as the Impact of War on the Environment, Environmental Justice, Global Warming/Climate Change, Food, Water and Children's Rights The opportunity for children to participate in political and legal decisions that affect them; in a broad sense, the rights of children to live free from hunger, abuse, neglect, and other inhumane conditions. and the Environment. The conference will also include a host of adult guest speakers, a performance by youth in the Global Kids' Undesirable Elements theatre program, and other entertainment.
