Outlook Failing to Send Email Message

Microsoft Office Outlook is a popularly used email client that allows you to send, receive and manage email messages in different email configurations.

Microsoft Office Outlook is a popularly used email client that allows you to send, receive and manage email messages in different email configurations. The application is also competent to let you manage and store calendar events, contacts, appointments, journals and other items. It follows central data storage and stores all its contents in a single file, called PST. If this file gets damaged, it might prevent you to send or receive any email messages from your account. In addition, you receive several error messages suggesting that the file is corrupt and needs to be restored from the recent file backup available. You can alternatively opt for scanning your damaged PST file by using commercial Data Recovery tools.

As an instance, when you try to send an email message, you might fail to do so with the following error on screen:

"Could not send the message."

Outlook shows the similar error message at subsequent attempts of sending email message. The problem persists even if you try to send another error message.

Cause

The above problem can result due to any of these reasons:

Outlook mail configuration issues
Connectivity problems with your ISP (Internet Service Provider)
Outlook Personal Folder is damaged

Solution

To troubleshoot the above behavior, you need to follow these steps:

Try resolving Outlook configuration problems by performing steps like:

Create a new Outlook profile including the non-problematic service
Check if Internet connectivity is not the issue
Try setting TCP/IP as your default protocol
Check for other connectivity concerns like checking for correct capitalization in connection settings and Internet addresses, remote mail configurations, Internet mail settings issues with ISP and multiple services requiring modem connection

PST stores all the objects of Outlook using a specific internal folder structure. If the file is damaged, you will need to recreate it and restore from the recent backup available. If no clean backup exists, use Data Recovery Software that can repair and restore damaged PST file. Data Recovery tools use powerful scanning algorithms and carefully examine the damaged Outlook personal folder by providing graphically rich user interface.
