Our own worst enemy.I read Rita Baum's letter "Likes Wiretapping A form of eavesdropping involving physical connection to the communications channels to breach the confidentiality of communications. For example, many poorly-secured buildings have unprotected telephone wiring closets where intruders may connect unauthorized wires to listen in on phone " in the March 6, issue, in which she scolds THE NEW AMERICAN for being against unregulated Adj. 1. unregulated - not regulated; not subject to rule or discipline; "unregulated off-shore fishing" regulated - controlled or governed according to rule or principle or law; "well regulated industries"; "houses with regulated temperature" 2. wiretapping, and I would like to offer some food for thought. Suppose your sister is married to someone from the Middle East. Suppose your family gets together for dinners once a week at your house. Suppose your brother-in-law calls his family once a week, and they happen to live in the Middle East. Suppose from time to time he calls overseas from your house after dinner. Suppose your brother-in-law's mom happens to mention that one of his distant relatives has joined an anti-American hate group. Now suppose the next day you see a van parked outside your house. Suppose it stays there for weeks, maybe months, on end. It follows your kids to school, your husband to work. Its occupants question your neighbors; they follow you and your family members everywhere you go. Your neighbors avoid you like the plague plague, any contagious, malignant, epidemic disease, in particular the bubonic plague and the black plague (or Black Death), both forms of the same infection. ; maybe your grocery store and the pharmacy pharmacy, art of compounding and dispensing drugs and medication. The term is also applied to an establishment used for such purposes. Until modern times medication was prepared and dispensed by the physician himself. In the 18th cent. don't want to do business with you anymore. Suppose after months of this, you enjoy a visit by a SWAT team. Would you still be okay with this? After all, you have done nothing wrong. The 4th Amendment to the Constitution would/ should prevent this type of abuse from happening. Why in the world would you want to give away your 4th Amendment rights? It has been said that those who give up freedom for security get neither. Yes, out of ignorance we are our own worst enemy.
