COPENHAGEN, Denmark--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 29, 2000

Osteometer BioTech A/S (www.osteobio.com) today announced the issuance on August 22, 2000, of U.S. Patent No. 6,107,047 covering key aspects of its technology for estimation of collagen breakdown.

The patent discloses improved methods for estimating bone resorption Bone resorption is the process by which osteoclasts break down bone and release the minerals, resulting in a transfer of calcium from bone fluid to the blood.

The osteoclasts are multi-nucleated cells that contain numerous mitochondria and lysosomes.
