Never before had two African-Americans won for Best Actress and Best Actor. Berry is the first black woman ever to win the top award. "This moment is so much bigger than me," she said after receiving her Oscar. "It's for every nameless, faceless woman of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.
