Osama's Balkan Buddies. (Insider Report).

Documents and other materials found in abandoned al-Qaeda training camps around Jalalabad, Afghanistan, connect terror chieftain Osama bin Laden to radical Muslim guerrillas in Bosnia and Kosovo -- provinces of the former Yugoslavia that are now United Nations protectorates.

"The evidence shows that recruits at bin Laden's two main camps ... were trained in conventional, biological and even nuclear warfare, according to class manuals," reported USA Today for November 27th. "They came from at least 21 countries, including Bosnia, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and other U.S. allies, enrollment records show."

A note left behind by Damir Bajrami, a 24-year-old Albanian recruit from Kosovo, illustrates how at least some of the radical Muslim guerrillas who benefited from U.S. assistance during the 1990s intend to repay their benefactors: "I am interested in suicide operations. I have Kosovo Liberation Army combat experience against Serb and America forces. I need no further training. I recommend [suicide] operations against [amusement] parks like Disney."

In related news, Reuters reported on November 25th that international police "arrested a local ethnic Albanian commander of the Kosovo Protection Corps suspected of involvement in kidnapping five Serbs in the province in 1999...." The suspect was identified only as "a former local commander of the guerilla Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in the central town of Vucitrn...." The "Kosovo Protection Corps" was created by the UN shortly after the world body took control of the Yugoslav province in 1999. It is composed almost entirely of field commanders and troops from among Osama bin Laden's KLA comrades.
