The pregnancy nutrition guide suggests that while pregnant you need to eat a variety of foods from all the categories in order to get the required nutrients and vitamins. Besides avoiding all fast foods and processed foods, it is also the time to avoid foods that contain pesticides, preservatives, additives, hormones and other toxins. In a nutshell, you should follow an organic pregnancy diet.
So what's the organic diet? Well, it is a holistic method of saying no to chemical pesticides, insecticides or artificial agents. If we admit that the poisons associated with cigarettes, heavy drinking or drug usage during pregnancy are harmful to the child, then why expose the expectant mom to poisons like pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides that are used on conventional produce! An organic pregnancy can support in protecting your baby from exposure to antibiotics and hormones.
Honestly, organic foods can be more expensive than commercial foods. However, here are a few tips to follow.
? Shop at the local farmers market.
? As an alternative to spending money on expensive processed granola bars and cereals, spend it on organic produce, grass-fed beef, and poultry.
? Buy fruits and vegetables that are in season.
? You can grow some of your own produce and herbs.
? Making your own meals from natural, whole foods will save you money over buying processed foods.
Let's accept the fact; animals that are raised organically are much safer because they are not filled with synthetic chemicals that can affect you or your fetus. What's more? Well, the chickens that are raised organically lay eggs that are rich in omega-3.
