Orff appointed assistant vice president at Hobbs Group.


WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1994--James R. Orff has been appointed assistant vice president-loss control engineering at Hobbs Group Inc., an insurance brokerage headquartered in Waltham, Mass. He is based in Atlanta, headquarters of the company's Southern region.

Orff joined Hobbs Group as loss control engineering manager in 1993. He spent the previous two years as safety director at Ed Taylor Construction Co., Tucker, Ga. From 1979 to 1989, he was senior safety engineer, Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Co., Marietta, Ga., and, a year earlier, he was loss control manager, Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. For the previous seven years, he served as a loss control engineer at several major property and casualty insurance companies, including: Associated Loss Control Services, Massapequa Park, N.Y.; Allstate Insurance Co., Huntington, N.Y.; Reliance Insurance Companies, Garden City, N.Y.; CNA (Certified NetWare Administrator) See Novell certification.  Insurance Co., New York City New York City: see New York, city.

He is also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), founded October 14, 1911, is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Its more than 31,000 members manage, supervise and consult on Occupational safety and health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, , the American Industrial Hygiene Association The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is a professional membership organization of industrial hygienists, and occupational health and safety, and environmental health professionals. , the construction division of the National Safety Council, and the Associated Builders and Contractors, where he has served as safety committee chairman.

He resides in Marietta, Ga., where he is a member of the Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. .

Hobbs Group is a provider of specialized risk management and commercial insurance brokerage services. The company, which has offices throughout North America, specializes in workers' compensation, construction wrap-ups and complex property programs.
